Did any of you watch the spelling bee last night on ABC? A girl from Olathe, KS won the event. I saw about the last hour of the event and could not stop watching. It was fascinating to watch the twelve and thirteen-year-old contestants use the knowledge that they have about phonetics and root words to spell words that they had not heard before. One contestant kept cracking me up because she would always ask about the part of speech right after hearing the definition of the word. I think in every case the part of speech was a noun.
Kudos to all the kids and the hard work that they put in preparing for the event.
